Shevacon 2013 wrap-up

2 weeks late, FAIL on my part. But those of your following my various social media outlets know how busy I’ve been… being on vacation at Walt Disney World with my family. 🙂

My post from last year is here, and as you can see, this year the con did NOT fall on our anniversary, but the weekend before it. Still, we took advantage of the weekend to have a mini “happy 12 years of marriage” celebration.

For me, the big highlight this year were two of the writer guests & a couple of my closest friends Bryan Young & Aaron Allston. The fact that both of these gentlemen were there made for not just a super fun con where many shenanigans ensued (be afraid, be very afraid), but a con that felt familiar, comfortable, & a bit like home. In addition there were many fantastic guests, like Gail Z. Martin, Robert West, Jim Bernheimer, Betty Cross, etc, that were so great to both see again & I was delighted to be on panels with them again.

Speaking of Gail, she did a podcast interview with me and Bryan which will be posted on her website here.

One of my favorite parts of conventions is getting to meet knew people. This year I met 2 artists of note – Matt Slay (you may know him from his work on Ninja Turtles & currently he’s working on Ironman 3) who I very much look forward to working with in the future & a new/old friend, fellow 501st Carolina Garrison member Eric McConell I bought one of his sketch books and he drew me THIS (bottom pic) on the back! Y’all know how much I like wonder woman. 🙂

I’d very much like to thank ShevaCon for putting on another great convention, especially Beth & Jeremy who took great care of us. For that matter, ShevaCon treats all their guests & attendees wonderfully & I cannot say enough good things about this convention. If you’re thinking of going in 2014, you should definitely go!

LOL, when this duo first walked in I said “Oh jeez… someone has a collar and is being led in on a chain…” Then I looked closer and realized an Ape held the leash, everything clicked, and suddenly it was all OK! 😉 Great costume guys! Love the attention to detail, with even the head scar for the lobotomy.
