Thrifty French Fashion & a guest fashionista (plus a bit of MidSouthCon)
I’m on my way home from MidSouthCon & I’m completely exhausted. But in a good way. My con experience was great – I met a lot of really wonderful new people (see above photo), forged new friendships, and my books found many new homes. I’ll post a full con recap in the next couple days (after I get the pics off my phone).
So for now I give you…
You might be asking yourself (because I know I’m certainly asking myself), why the heck is this author/Marine/mother/wife writing a fashion blog? Aren’t there like a bajillion fashion blogs out there? Why do we need another?
We probably don’t, and I don’t think I’m a fashionista at all, but apparently some of my friends and family do, and they asked me to do one, soooo… I figured this would be kind of fun to do. So there.
You can see my first post HERE, where I go into the basics of my style & kind of what my shopping “motto” is (never pay full price for anything), and that patience is a virtue (wait 3 years to find a specific pair of $250 Fluevog shoes for $40? Why yes I did…)
French Fashion
Special Agenda? Not really – Congress wasn’t in session on this day, so I decided to go for a more casual, yet feminine look. Plus I was pining a bit for Paris (my husband and I went for my 31st birthday) & it was nearly spring, so…
Tan Banana Republic trench coat, $14 (eBay!)
Striped elbow length blouse & grey trousers, ~ $60 (random boutique in Paris, on sale)
Banana Republic Floral scarf, $10 (in store clearance sale)
Luckybrand Crossbody bag, $35 (in store clearance sale)
Fluevog Fellowships, $40 (eBay!)
Penny Blossom, $7.50 (Etsy.com)
Sweatyband Headband, $15 (various race expos)
Brown patterned socks, $5 (Target)
Vintage gloves, $1 (eBay)
Watch, Raymond Weil, gift
Total: $187.50 (lots of layers & accessories here). At full price would have been: approx $888.50 (bling not calculated in total)
Notes: We went to Paris for my 31st birthday, and I vowed that I would NOT leave without at least one pair of shoes, a dress, and some other distinctly looking Parisian outfit. This was the Parisian looking outfit (the trousers and blouse). We lucked out in that the week we were in Paris happened to be a time where EVERY store went on sale. Seriously, if you wanted designer ANYTHING on big sales you could get it! And since we were foreign we didn’t have to pay sales tax!
Closeup of my shoes. Aside from being ridiculously comfortable, they also are so adorable (just look at that pink bow) and so versatile! I love that I can wear them with jean shorts AND a super frilly dress.
I own exactly ONE nice watch. It was a “congrats on your new job” gift from my husband, and even though he got it on a 40% off sale, I know it still wasn’t cheap. But as the old saying goes “you get what you pay for.” It matches everything (casual and business attire), and looks a lot classier than my pink plastic timex watch did. So yes, I’d say if you’re going to get a nice watch, go for something clean and simple that will go with everything.
Pics were taken by my adorable and super fashion conscious daughter, here modeling my floral scarf.
And now for my next guest blogger, the lovely Kabura, a friend of mine. I absolutely LOVE her style!
Suitable Work Outfit, by Kabura
Earrings cream flower balls – Body Central $5.50
Cardigan cream w/ cream flowers at the V neck- Old Navy $15
Orange sundress – Body Central $18.00
Black work pants – Walmart $15.00
Total: $53.50
Notes:This Outfit works great for the spring and the summer because it’s bright and flirty. The orange gives this look a pop of color! The top is actually a orange sundress that can take you from the office to happy hour by removing the black pants. I also love how the earrings are almost the same as the flowers on the cardigan. It’s the little details take a simple outfit blend to WHOA! Who says the office is all business and no play! Not me…
Lastly, need a copy of my books? As it happens you can buy them here.
